Skyping from Sweden to Ireland

The final performance was successfully skyped through to a very supportive audience in the courthouse gallery,Ennistymon on Thursday 17 June. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Siobhan Mulcahy, the Clare Arts Officer for funding our flights to get to Sweden. We met some interesting dancers there and even got photographys of the live performance in 2 newspapers! Thanks too to Trudi and Daire in the Courthouse for hosting the event. And again depending on friendship to save our art, a very special thanks to Jackie, Fiona, Fiona, Antoinette and Marianne for all your support and practical help on the day! We couldn't have done it without you.

Performance invite 17-06-10 Sweden

The performance dates approach.....
“Site Meetings 170610” is a LIVE performance broadcast
from a specific street sculpture site in the AbunDANCE International Choreography and Dance Festival, Karlstad, Sweden, performed by Alexandra Boettcher, Maeve Collins & Maria Kerin,
using two-way Skype new media and video projection for audience to experience it live
in the Courthouse Gallery, Ennistymon, Co.Clare
on 17th June 2010 at 11am and 1pm.

In this unique performance that removes boundaries, Alexandra Boettcher will be performing in the Courthouse Gallery simultaneously to the performers in Sweden. Both will be experienced by audiences in Ireland and Sweden through the merging of live performance and new media technology.

Ennistymon based artists Alexandra Boettcher, Maeve Collins and Maria Kerin have been selected to participate in the Site Specific section of ABUNDANCE, an international Choreoghraphy and Dance festival in its 3rd year. There will be 6 live performances in Sweden over 3 days with the final day skyped to the Courthouse Gallery.  Through a variety of media: drawing, film, internet, sound, installation and dance they will choreograph and perform a response to the site as it offers a place of arrival, a meeting place for a live embodied movement process that stems out of a shared daily movement practice. As visitors to a site, they will receive and give, trusting that the space will provide a point of resistance and potential for transformation through creativity. This leads to exploration through presence and embodied movement with meeting points in contemporary culture. Boettcher, Collins and Kerin are, since March 2009, in the process of exploring, developing and performing Dance works live through New Media, mainly skype and the internet, by engaging with site and audience, locally, nationally and internationally. This coalition of artists wish to create experimental independent art and a wider context for Irish contemporary dance works, growing from the local to international. Time away from practice for the past few weeks, allowed the resonance of work done  to arrive in my body, an emboddied awearness of the turn of, having gone within, beginning to come out. the turn where the support from working within has transformed itself in meeting the support from outside, a shift of awearness. Looking forward to meeting audience now, beginning to travell to arrive again. . .

Alex absent, used camera's from Laptops to work in two spaces. Two spaces- practice room above and kitchen below. Began with navel radiation in same space, the silver blue reflected from the sky onto land was a colour chosen to connect.  set cameras to record Maria in practice space and Maeve in kitchen at same time. Camera's both facing north and west slightly. What interesting was the overlapping or corresponding nothing going on when movement out of view in both spaces. For me the hard edges in the kitchen with embodied movement meant that the often intuitive could meet in the spacial, particularly with movement on counter top. Think this a point for me to trust t keep happening, the head tail connection has helped me with this. Both talking after about the composition of the open door of the counter top coming out offering this other spaces and openings. also that performance was only 13 mins again, amounts of time.  To work into: compositions with movement and camera's. framing time as well as spaces. . .
